I attempted an Abstract piece what reads as ocean could just as easily be atmosphere: layered bands of cobalt, teal, navy, and soft white drift horizontally across the canvas like weather moving through. Warm ochre and gold pulse beneath the surface, grounding the composition with light from below.

This is the ocean as abstraction; can you sense the break? A rhythmic accumulation of the sea itself. Multiple breaking crests overlap in soft white foam, building a visual cadence that feels both restless and meditative. The palette is cool and expansive, with deep navy anchoring bursts of luminous blue-green and cream.

Painted on location at Far Rockaway Beach, NY, in March 2026 at the tail end of a winter swell. " Windless Break" captures the rare stillness between sets that breathless moment when the ocean gathers itself before the last wave of the season breaks. The wave face glows with warm amber and gold, lit from within against a deep charcoal body of water, while white foam erupts at the crest into a cool blue-gray sky. The palette, muted blues, sandy ochres, and slate, carries the melancholy and beauty of a season ending. The composition divides the canvas into elemental layers: churning foam below, the luminous wave at center, the dark shore beyond, and open sky above.
